Some pre- #cyc4lib remarks about Šnipiškės, an old and neglected area in Vilnius that used to be populated by Roma, Jewish and Polish people: biking here is a thrilling time travel back to the 19th Century. Some houses still lack tap water and are heated with wood. Some streets are not paved. Just next to the area the new “Vilnius business triangle” is buing built. Interesting parallells here to areas like Docklands in London and Kista Science City in Stockholm. All these areas share the absurd contrasts between big money and some of the poorest – and multicultural -neighborhoods. I wonder, to what extent the locals gain from all these luxurious investments? Time will tell…
