Had some colourful retro food in one of the most interesting buildings in Riga: The Academy of Science. It was built by the Soviet Union in the 1950ies as a gift to Latvian workers and farmers. A typical example of a Stalin skyscraper, comparable to the Palace of Culture in Warzaw. Apart from taking the (intact) elevator up to the 17th (?) floor, one must pay a visit to the cafe and indulge in the post-soviet kitsch environment. I had Latvian super red beet soup with some kind of pudding with jellyish blueberry sauce. It wonder if the menu has changed since the 50ies?
